  • Abundant Supply

    “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Probably all of us have claimed this promise many times during our lives. I believe God meant just what He said -- that He would supply all our needs! Whether our needs be spiritual or temporal, He has just what we need, and our needs may be met in ways that will surprise us. Our needs may not be met until the very last moment, but God always comes through just in time. Time after time God has been faithful to keep His promise. One part of that verse has always seemed to stand out to me -- “according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Just take a moment and meditate on the riches in glory. They are so great, so plentiful, that our finite minds cannot grasp the extent of His riches. So, there is no question about whether or not He can supply all our needs -- not just all that I have, but all that everyone in the world has! I read a statement something to the effect that God has so committed Himself to answer prayer and meet the needs of His people, that, if necessary, He will create the answer to meet the need. How I praise Him today for the privilege of being a child of the King! One who is so wealthy, so caring, and so willing to help His people. Dottie Rambo has written a song that speaks of this very promise: “Bring All Your Needs to the Altar.”

    Walk boldly to stand in His presence;
    Lay claim to the promise He made.
    Your soul can be cleansed ‘ neath the flow of the fountain;
    He blood washed guilt all away.

    He watches the fall of the sparrow,
    Concerned with the lilies so fair.
    How much more He cares for the sheep of His pasture!
    So bring Him your burdens to bear.

    Chorus:
    Bring all your needs to the altar,
    Bring all your needs to the Lord.
    He is so willing and able to help you;
    Bring all your needs to the Lord.

  • Our Great God

    I love to read the 40th chapter of Isaiah, because it so clearly describes the care of God for His people, His sovereignty, and His unlimited power and resources. What a privilege we have to serve the Sovereign God of the universe, the One who is in complete control. Why should we worry about any of our needs when our Father is the Great I AM, the One who has all power at His command and no limit to His resources. We don’t need to be concerned about the way ahead that we cannot see because our God is all-knowing. One of the great promises in this chapter is found in verses 28 and 29, “Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”

    There Is Nothing That My God Can’t Do
    He named every star then He hung it on high;
    The moon shed it’s light across the great sky;
    At the sound of His voice the sun broke through
    There is nothing, no nothing that my God can’t do.

    He measured the sea in the span of His hand
    Mountains were formed at His command.
    And the same Mighty God can take a heart of stone
    Melt it and cleanse it, and make it His own.

    Chorus:
    There’s nothing, no nothing,
    There is nothing that my God can’t do.
    Miracles and wonders,
    There is nothing, no nothing that my God can’t do.

  • Our Divine Burden-Bearer

    A number of years ago I went through a number of crises in just a few years time. My first father-in-law died and just a few months later my husband died. I didn’t feel I could share how I was feeling with my parents, because my dad was very ill at the time with cancer and Mom had her hands full taking care of him. Nor could I talk about my losses with my in-laws because they had suffered the losses, as well. The next spring my grandfather died, and in the fall my two daughters and I moved 650 miles from home and family. I didn’t feel that it would be right to share my grief with my new church family, because they never even knew those I had lost. I soon remarried and didn’t feel free to talk to my new husband or his family about my losses, as that would look like I didn’t love my new husband or his family as much as I had the first. My father passed away the next year, and I suffered two miscarriages, as well. I hadn’t even really prayed about my pain and loss, as I thought that since God already knew He would strengthen me and give me the help I needed. Then I began to withdraw from life, not having any idea what was wrong with me. It seemed I was tired all the time, and couldn’t get enough rest. When I went for medical help, the doctor found I was suffering from clinical depression. The physician told me I needed to share my load with someone. I came home and fell on my knees and cried out to God and told Him how I was hurting, and I began to heal. Although, God does know what we are going through, He has told us in His Word, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7). “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (I Peter 5:7). Notice in all these verses that God tells us to bring our burdens and needs to Him, and until we give them to Him, we just continue to carry the load and wonder why we are still burdened down and hurting. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

    Leave It There
    If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold,
    And you have to get along with meager fare,
    Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird;
    Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

    Chorus:
    Leave it there, leave it there,
    Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
    If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out.
    Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

    If your body suffers pain and your health you can't regain,
    And your soul is almost sinking in despair,
    Jesus knows the pain you feel, He can save and He can heal;
    Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

    When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail,
    Don't forget that God in Heaven answers prayer;
    He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through.
    Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

  • What Is Your Response to Adversity?

    When my first husband was given the diagnosis of a terminal disease, the doctored offered to give him something for depression, as he was afraid my husband might become suicidal. There are those who do have that tendency when faced with adversity they have no control over. Others blame God for all their troubles and completely turn their away from Him. Some blame others for all their trials, become embittered, and alienate themselves from those who love them most. But God has told us in His Word that if we keep our trust in Him during the times of adversity, He will see us through victoriously. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (That just about covers every trial or hardship we could ever face in this life, doesn’t it?) “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37). Did you notice that He hasn’t promised just to bring us through, but to make us more than conquerors. That sounds like real victory to me! Our God is faithful and is able for every situation we may face in life if we just remain faithful to Him and trust Him for the outcome.

    Victory All the Time
    They who know the Savior shall in Him be strong,
    Mighty in the conflict of the right ’gainst wrong.
    This the blessed promise given in God’s Word,
    Doing wondrous exploits, they who know the Lord.

    Chorus:
    Victory! victory! blessed, blood-bought victory!
    Victory! victory! vict’ry all the time!
    As Jehovah liveth, strength divine He giveth
    Unto those who know Him—vict’ry all the time!

    In the midst of battle be thou not dismayed,
    Tho’ the pow’rs of darkness ’gainst thee are arrayed.
    God, thy Strength, is with thee, causing thee to stand,
    Heaven’s allied armies wait at thy command.

    Brave to bear life’s testing, strong the foe to meet,
    Walking like a hero midst the furnace heat,
    Doing wondrous exploits with the Spirit’s Sword,
    Winning souls for Jesus, praise, O praise the Lord!

  • A Living Sacrifice?

    When I hear the word sacrifice, my mind immediately goes to the sacrifices the Jewish people were commanded to offer in Old Testament Times. It was to be something of the very best they had, but it was to be killed and offered as a burnt offering before God. Recently, I was reading in Romans 12 where Paul wrote, “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice…” I began to think about what it must mean to live each day as a sacrifice to God. The Amplified Bible renders that verse this way: “I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.” If I am to present myself as a living sacrifice to God it means that I will daily lay aside my own desires to follow Him, put aside all my energy and resources at His disposal, and trust Him to guide me. It’s only as I live daily for God that I will be ready when He comes for His own.

    All for Jesus
    All for Jesus, all for Jesus!
    All my being’s ransomed powers:
    All my thoughts and words and doings,
    All my days and all my hours.
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours;
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours.

    Let my hands perform His bidding,
    Let my feet run in His ways;
    Let my eyes see Jesus only,
    Let my lips speak forth His praise.
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    Let my lips speak forth His praise.
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    Let my lips speak forth His praise.

    Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
    I’ve lost sight of all beside;
    So enchained my spirit’s vision,
    Looking at the Crucified.
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!

    Looking at the Crucified.
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!

    Looking at the Crucified.

    Oh, what wonder! how amazing!
    Jesus, glorious King of kings,
    Deigns to call me His belovèd,
    Lets me rest beneath His wings.
    All for Jesus all for Jesus!

    Resting now beneath His wings;
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    Resting now beneath His wings.
