  • What Is Your Response to Adversity?

When my first husband was given the diagnosis of a terminal disease, the doctored offered to give him something for depression, as he was afraid my husband might become suicidal. There are those who do have that tendency when faced with adversity they have no control over. Others blame God for all their troubles and completely turn their away from Him. Some blame others for all their trials, become embittered, and alienate themselves from those who love them most. But God has told us in His Word that if we keep our trust in Him during the times of adversity, He will see us through victoriously. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (That just about covers every trial or hardship we could ever face in this life, doesn’t it?) “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37). Did you notice that He hasn’t promised just to bring us through, but to make us more than conquerors. That sounds like real victory to me! Our God is faithful and is able for every situation we may face in life if we just remain faithful to Him and trust Him for the outcome.

    Victory All the Time
They who know the Savior shall in Him be strong,
Mighty in the conflict of the right ’gainst wrong.
This the blessed promise given in God’s Word,
Doing wondrous exploits, they who know the Lord.

    Chorus:
    Victory! victory! blessed, blood-bought victory!
Victory! victory! vict’ry all the time!
As Jehovah liveth, strength divine He giveth
Unto those who know Him—vict’ry all the time!

In the midst of battle be thou not dismayed,
Tho’ the pow’rs of darkness ’gainst thee are arrayed.
God, thy Strength, is with thee, causing thee to stand,
Heaven’s allied armies wait at thy command.

Brave to bear life’s testing, strong the foe to meet,
Walking like a hero midst the furnace heat,
Doing wondrous exploits with the Spirit’s Sword,
Winning souls for Jesus, praise, O praise the Lord!

As a Christian, faced with a dreaded disease, I'm in a win/win situation.  Life in heaven or being healed.  I rejoice in my choices and choose to live each day with God showing me His beauty and wonders.  He constantly provides me with what no human being could ever provide.
