Our Divine Burden-Bearer
A number of years ago I went through a number of crises in just a few years time. My first father-in-law died and just a few months later my husband died. I didn’t feel I could share how I was feeling with my parents, because my dad was very ill at the time with cancer and Mom had her hands full taking care of him. Nor could I talk about my losses with my in-laws because they had suffered the losses, as well. The next spring my grandfather died, and in the fall my two daughters and I moved 650 miles from home and family. I didn’t feel that it would be right to share my grief with my new church family, because they never even knew those I had lost. I soon remarried and didn’t feel free to talk to my new husband or his family about my losses, as that would look like I didn’t love my new husband or his family as much as I had the first. My father passed away the next year, and I suffered two miscarriages, as well. I hadn’t even really prayed about my pain and loss, as I thought that since God already knew He would strengthen me and give me the help I needed. Then I began to withdraw from life, not having any idea what was wrong with me. It seemed I was tired all the time, and couldn’t get enough rest. When I went for medical help, the doctor found I was suffering from clinical depression. The physician told me I needed to share my load with someone. I came home and fell on my knees and cried out to God and told Him how I was hurting, and I began to heal. Although, God does know what we are going through, He has told us in His Word, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7). “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (I Peter 5:7). Notice in all these verses that God tells us to bring our burdens and needs to Him, and until we give them to Him, we just continue to carry the load and wonder why we are still burdened down and hurting. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Leave It There
If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold,
And you have to get along with meager fare,
Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird;
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.Chorus:
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.If your body suffers pain and your health you can't regain,
And your soul is almost sinking in despair,
Jesus knows the pain you feel, He can save and He can heal;
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail,
Don't forget that God in Heaven answers prayer;
He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
